From February 2018, Wargrave Surgery will become a training practice. This means that, in common with many other local practices, the surgery will be hosting a doctor in the final stages of their training to become a fully-qualified GP. This doctor, or 'GP registrar' as they are sometimes called, will have at least 2 years of experience as a doctor - i.e they would have finished medical school at least 2 years ago. They will work under the supervision of the Wargrave GPs, seeing patients in the same way but with supervision available. They will also have a weekly tutorial with Dr Alton, who holds an additional qualification in clinical education (a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education), as well as weekly group-teaching with the other GP Registrars in the Reading area.
We hope hosting a registrar will help keep the other doctors up-to-date with the latest research and ideas in the world of General Practice. There is a recruitment crisis in General Practice, with a lot of GPs set to retire in the next few years, as well as GPs moving abroad or quitting the profession. It's crucial that GP training is expanded to ensure we have enough GPs in Wargrave and Berkshire in the future. Please contact the surgery if you have any questions
New to the area and would like to join our practice? We would be happy to help you.
