Our policy
We are a GP training practice and host trainees from the Reading VTS Training Scheme. This means we offer support and training to doctors who are training to become independent GP’s. GP trainees will have several years of post graduate experience, meaning they are qualified doctors, who have chosen to specialise in General Practice and are completing their training to become independent GP’s. Some may be new to general practice whilst others may have done placements in general practice before. They often bring with them a wealth of valuable experience and are valuable members of our team. All GP trainees are trained under the supervision of a GP trainer and have an allocated supervisor during each of their clinical sessions.
The GP trainee may sit in with various members of the team during their time with us. When this occurs, we will always ask the patient in advance if they consent to this or whether they wish to see the GP or nurse on their own. The GP trainee may also sometimes have a colleague observing their consultations – again, we will always ask your permission for this first.
Occasionally our GP registrars and trainers may take video recordings of their consultations. This is a valuable training tool used only for training purposes. We will always ask for patient’s consent prior to your appointment and provide a video consent form which needs to be signed beforehand. If you would prefer the consultation not to be recorded please inform us. You can also withdraw your consent at any stage and your consultation will not be affected in any way.
Medical students
We have a number of medical students from the University of Oxford who are attached to the surgery throughout the year. These students will not run clinics independently and will be here gaining exposure to general practice and any patient contact will be under direct supervision.
